It’s pretty straight-forward. Cold air from the Arctic comes down from the north, and a surge of really warm air from the Gulf of Mexico comes in from the south, causing these low pressure systems to spin. As they strengthen, they ride along the jet stream into the Great Lakes. Let the wind and waves commence.
