Dominic Papatola, Morning Edition arts commentator and St. Paul Pioneer Press theater critic, talks about the state of midsize theaters in the Twin Cities and the differing outlooks.

St. Paul's Penumbra Theatre company says it's out of debt after nearly closing its doors five years ago because of financial problems. That's good news for theater-goers. But Minneapolis' Theatre de la Jeune Lune admitted recently that it has fallen deep in debt.
