With the announcement of a terminal disease by playwright August Wilson, an excerpt of Wilson speaking to the University of Minnesota Alumni Association back in 1992 is aired.
Playwright August Wilson says he's dying of liver cancer. The 60-year-old Pulitzer-Prizewinner says he was diagnosed with the ailment in June; his physicians have told him that he has just months to live. Wilson has dedicated his career to documenting the odyssey of the black male in American society by writing a play set in each decade of the 20th century. He lived in St. Paul for twelve years, where he developed close ties to both Penumbra Theatre and the Playwrights' Center.
