Dorothy Day, Thomas Merton, Walker Percy and Flannery C'Connor are all important 20th century American writers, especially in the Catholic tradition. Despite the differences in their work, writer Paul Elie (EE-lye) believes they could be fairly characterized as a school. His first book, "The Life You Save May Be Your Own: An American Pilgrimage." examines their commonalities. He told Minnesota Public Radio's Tom Crann that while they had very different personalities, they were all bound by their literary expression and their common Catholic faith.
