A new study finds that the chemical compound used in 3M's ScotchGard is more widespread than researchers and the company originally thought. A Michigan State University study, sponsored by Maplewood-based 3M, found that low levels of the substance were found in mammals, fish and birds worldwide. 3M pulled most Scotchgard products containing the chemical compound last year and expects all products to be off the market by the end of 2002.
