On this Weekend program, MPR’s Rich Dietman interviews Ruth Mattson Taylor about speaking with the dead. Through the help of British clairvoyant Margaret Flavell Tweddell, Ms. Taylor says she communicated with her deceased father, A.D. Mattson, who was a Lutheran minister, on numerous occasions during which time he told her some of what it is like "on the other side.” Ms. Taylor recently finished editing a book entitled, "Witness from Beyond."

Not knowing anything about communication with Beyond. I thought it would be a very profound dark spooky type of thing and she is what they call a positive Clairvoyant. She does not need to go into trance. It's as though she's relaying a phone conversation and they're in the living room with my friends home at 10 in the morning with a sun streaming in the windows. She suddenly said to me she said your mother is here now and she has three others with her. My dad had a through the years been very interested in the Paranormal area. We had had certain incidents occur in our family which made them very open to this area and they they talked quite openly to us about it. And also he had said on a number of occasions to me before he died. He said I am certainly going to try to getI threw a DS interest in the Paranormal was further piqued when he was doing graduate study at Yale Divinity School number of the professors. There were quite interested in this area and the famous medium Margery Crandon was in Boston at the time. She was the wife of a Bostonian doctor and they did go up theological students and some of the professors to watch different experiments with Margery Crandon. So he had had an investigative interest in this area for many years as well as personal experiences. How do you answer Skeptics? How do you answer people who say that just can't be that maybe there is life after death, but to be able to sit down in a room and have someone tell you what that person who died 2 3 4 5 years ago or more is thinking sayingDoing or Rich. This is an area that you cannot prove or disprove. In fact, I say in the prologue of the book that I've edited that we are not attempting to prove or disprove it. We are simply presenting the material which to us was very relevant. And we ask that each reader who reads the book evaluated according to his own understanding and see how he feels about it and how he can grass but it's just like faith in God, you can't argue someone into belief in God you have to have direct insight. In order to have a belief and the Paranormal areas the same you must have I think your own direct inside into these areas and I think all people have the ability really to open up in these other dimensions and it may come to each of us at a different time in our life or to a different degree in their life. There are many reports now in medical science of out of the body experiences that people have and I had this happen to me once when I was 16 years old and had scarlet fever and I'll never forget it. But it it convinced me Beyond any shadow of a doubt that there is something beyond the physical body that does exist. I found myself up in the ceiling of the room looking down at my body below this momentary type of experience. I've never had it happen, since you have other people who have out of the body experiences that can travel great distances atLike Ingo Swann can't even report from outer space when he travels and these are scientifically verifiable in many instances. Are you and your father were very close and I would assume that his curiosity about the Paranormal was passed on to you. Yeah, and you hate you came to this you sounds like you came to this believing or or accepting at least to some degree. It's not something that a skeptic is likely to have much success with I guess that's a question really. Well, I think you you could block a setting if you were very skeptical and you had a clairvoyant and I would say this I would certainly not advise people to just willy-nilly pick out a medium and go to I think that they should be very careful if they're going to probe into these areas at their very sure that they have a very reliable person that they're working with what kind of things do you look for someone who spiritually oriented for sure because I think these areas can be very badly misused. You can either use them responsibly or irresponsibly. The Bible says test the spirits to see if they are of God. I'd say test the medium to be sure she's of God what kinds of things do you ask? Well spiritual Frontiers Fellowship is an organization that's composed of People that are in the various so organized churches Protestant and Roman Catholic and Jewish and they really very carefully screen. The type of people they would recommend is a a medium or a psychic if anyone were to want to really probe in these areas a bit. I would certainly suggest contacting the spiritual Frontiers Fellowship to get a recommendation once one has a recommendation and once one decides with whom they want to communicate. What can you expect to happen? Well, maybe what happened to you? Alright Margaret is as I said a positive Clairvoyant when we have a sitting are we won't call it a Sam's because it is not a sannce. We usually have them in broad daylight in the den of my home with a Sony tape recorder and we usually start our session with meditation and prayer asking a D in the book in the material that we've gotten which I report in the book says that the whole process between he and Margaret he feels is undergirded by the Holy Spirit, which is the energizing force of all life. He identifies. He feels that this is the source whereby they are able to do this Saint Paul in 1st Corinthians talks about the gifts of the Spirit and in that he mentions the ability to discern between Spirits, which I think would bring clairvoyants of Margaret's type under that umbrella. We usually start with meditation and prayer and when she has gotten a connection with a d she is able to switch on the microphone herself and begins to relay what she has or what she is getting from ad. It's his though. Are you married Richard? Yeah. Yeah. Well in other words if I picked up a telephone while I'm sitting here and it would be your wife on the phone and I'd say Rich it's your wife on the phone and she's telling me that she would like to have you come by around 6 for dinner this evening. If it's possible, she will have things ready and other words. It's like relaying what what she's hearing through the thought-form of a day so she doesn't speak for him personally. She eventually she did when she first started out it was in the third person but it has their empathy grew over the 55 settings. She was finally talking in the first person and almost the gestures that came through or you could all wear identifiable as a D. Did she pass on to you? Well in the first sitting in this material at he brought through wanted us to know more or less what it was like when he first went over. And that's what you mean by dying. Right and she told of the fact that my mother and other relatives were there to meet him when he first stepped out of the Physical Realm. And he talked about the fact that he went through Gates which were not Gates of wrought iron or wood but living Gates which were energized light. And he asked those in the realm Beyond do you always have to go through the gates? And they said no, this is what you have built. This is your entrance to Paradise because you have always thought this so you will have Gates other people may have a different idea that they might if they've been a boating and Susie as they might think they are going to be carried across in a bolt of which I thought was very interesting and the similarity to what he reported and what dr. Kubler-Ross and dr. Raymond Moody reported with are clinically dead patients. I think is is rather similar by the fact that they relatives and friends were there to meet them that there was a great deal of light and I think you will find similar at 8 there after you talked about how it was to die and I'm assuming that This is the sounds to me more like a my idea of Heaven than hell that he went to heaven. What were some of the other things that the he passed back to you in terms of what it what it was like for him to be where he was or is well, one of the interesting things he pointed out that there are different levels of consciousness or different levels of existence be on this Earth plane and the level that we step out to right at the point of death is pretty much a replica in many ways of what we experienced here now, And he said the reason for that is that he being a religious person said the good Lord. God has provided a realm that will not be a great shock to the identity of the person when they first step out if you work at a pulled into some kind of a completely different orientation, it would be a great shock to the identity of the person. He said that it is of a finer vibration. In other words. They matter of Earth on the physical plane is a denser vibration than the matter of the astral plane and you might compare it to the fact that we can see a visual observing raised like light the light in this room for instance. Where as we cannot see radio or television waves because they vibrate at a rate too fast for eyes to pick up unless he says you are Clairvoyant the clairvoyants eyes are tuned face. Turn off that she can pick up vision from the realm Beyond on occasion. so that one of the interesting things was that he pointed out that people even tend to worship according to the denomination that they belong to when they first go to the astral realm which I thought was quite unusual. I have never believed that this might be the case, but he says as you progress to the higher Realms, then there's a Unity of God praise and other words. If a Buddhist went over to the other realm, he would be thinking in the terms of his face or his path or if a Jew went over or a Catholic went over or a Protestant they would retain the pattern of worship that they had here on Earth, but eventually when they got to the higher Realms, it would be like rays of a sun all converging and the realization that there is one God. Overall, he said is a tremendous experience and in the higher Realms. This is there's a Unity of God praise this segregation of worship disappears. Did he talk about hell? He said that heaven and hell, I really not places there more conditions. We take with us what we are if we're a loving harmonious. Compassionate person we take that type of Personality with us that is the type of Personality that fits in to a realm of glory and love and compassion. If we take with us a hateful bigoted intolerant personality. We carry that with us, we don't there's not a sudden metamorphosis at the point of death and that is a hellish type of personality and their we carry our own Hell or Heaven with us and but there is he says the opportunity to grow and develop spiritually there even talks about the fact that there is a state or hardened criminals are which might be called the depths of hell. But even there he pointed out to us that there are people from the realm beyond that tried to assist and help these people grow. Spiritually. Evidently has given them a task to try to Through prayer through thought through work this way, although they they don't go into the realm in our Lord shall we say contaminated or pierced by this hatred or whatever the person who is in the state is experiencing. They are able to help through the power of prayer at a distance when the person who is in a hellish State finally realizes that there is a realm of light and makes his own personal commitment that he does want to be helped that it is possible for that person to be helped. Did your father indicate what form he had and others had after death? He said that the astral body which they have when they step out is pretty much a replica of the body that we have. Now. This is an interesting concept that I want to try to get some more information through if he can give it to us Stewart Edward White in his books pointed out with his work with Betty's a medium. Who is his wife. This was before she died. She went over into the realm Beyond which is reported in the Betty book published by ep Dutton and she talks their about this self of hers being a field force of energy and that she could expand almost to the size of a room or she could come down to quite a small compact energy source and 80 points out that thought is the essence of all things that they create things by the power of thought and there have been indications that they perhaps create. an identifiable form at different times there instances where he talks or Margaret says that he appears younger than he had in previous settings. So I don't understand all of these Concepts, but it may be that the Dynamic Self which goes out is certainly it's it's an identifiable recognizable form in other words. If I should die, I would recognize a day when I met him. In the communication was it a one-way communication that you had with your father or were you able to was just him communicating with you? If I tried to ask a question or query we would break the line of communication. He wasn't it didn't see me was able to hold the thread but afterwards so I would say after we had perhaps 20 sessions. I was able to ask questions and he would answer things that we would query. In fact, he would even sense sometimes if he was giving something and I would not quite get the meaning of what he was when he say I think Ruth has a question on that will pause and then I would give a question and he would answer back so that was possible after while and your book. Well that is based on communication that took place over a couple of years Have you communicated since that time as a matter of fact that we had a communication with him last November and their we hadn't had a communication for a full year Margaret had not been back for a year. And I hear again. It was typically ad you would have thought that he would have talked to us about personal matters family matters if he'd been away for a year and we were going to discuss things instead. He was very concerned about the whole array Nyan situation the Ayatollah Khomeini and the hostages and told us that they were very concerned on the other side great bands of souls would band together for prayer power for this whole situation and literally concentrate in on a run to try to smooth this out in any way they could wear their power that they had to project. And I thought this was incredible because this would have again been very typically a day when he was on Earth and after he has passed over he has still been very interested in areas of malnutrition throughout the world are various social injustice is throughout the world. And this was his life. This was this is what would be typical of him, but it seems to me that if there is no other message at least the one message that came through to me is that there's something Beyond Something Beyond Death, there's something beyond what we have now and that at least you seem to be optimistic about that based on what important if we believe this because I think a lot of fears that stifle people on Earth psychological theories are based by an ingrained perhaps subconscious fear of death in people and if people can get over the idea that death is something to be feared. I think they can live life here and now much more spontaneously and fully and dynamically and concentrate on the areas of social justice which are very important ad constantly stressed that the now is very very important in life should not be taken cheaply. It's something very very precious. And something that we should value each day and live it to the fullest which is what he did when he was on Earth.
