They're really looking for answers that there have a lot of problems on Medicare their problems on Social Security. They are concerned about inflation definitely because they're on fixed-income concerned about the unemployment question because those happen to be our children or grandchildren. We went to recycle like this back in the thirties the Great Depression and thought it was a baby. It's a wonderful experience. We thought we vowed then that this will not happen to our children our children's children and we don't want to see it happen and we're waiting for waiting for someone to say they're going to turn the picture around now.On Social Security Frances and we get cost-of-living adjustments cost of living at the end of December to tell us how much it cost Living went up. The senior will wait till like July to get an adjustment. We want one of the candidates and tell us that what we're seeking they will support that they'll be a cost-of-living adjustment twice a year once every 6 months when Medicare first came into being in latest 74 the only cover 38% of the of the medical bills right now healthcare costs more than before Medicare assistance. When the bill is past I forgot that the people had miles. there's nothing done for Care of the teeth one of the greatest health problems of the elderly. Is Dental ulcerated decaying teeth candy store food properly living maybe on 185 $200 a month trying to maintain a home and going to the dentist and find that for 800 to $12 so I can have their teeth their mouth fixed up that it just becomes a quest and going back home and continued to eat and poison their system. Ion earnings people are limited how much income they can. Earn under Social Security without being penalized. We think that limit should be raised. Probably one of the most serious probably out of his long-term Health Care. No labor, and mostly elderly have supported national health insurance that Kennedy carmenville, which is probably the most liberal of all the healthcare proposals. Doesn't cover the dental problem unless you're 18 or under it doesn't cover long-term nursing home care and here's worth thousands of Thrifty senior people that worked all their life have saved set aside and I'll think that they're secure with your Social Security and a nest egg that set aside a problem one or the other has a stroke ends up in the monk in a nursing home facility. And if they have 50g set aside in a few years this is wiped out and then reduced the poppers and this is some of the things we are we're seeking answers to It's interesting to note that when you talk about seniors concerned for the high unemployment rate. It's not because you're worried about yourselves as much as you're worried about your children and grandchildren exact. That's exactly right and we're all real concerned about inflation because we are on fixed income we can fall out negotiate a raise in our way just because things have gone up let me ask you about that fixed income you made news here in the Twin Cities several months ago when a few hundred senior Federation members demonstrated in downtown st. Paul against Tyre public utility rates. You wanted some type of element in there to affect seniors. Would you like to see something like that on a federal level and how are the public utility rates with rise almost done a six-month bases affecting scene two, things are very public utilities first. We don't think the new rates could should be put in effect before they have the approval of the Public Service Commission. That's the fly II is in business. The idea is to sell as much Excel if you buy if I got a million items to buy to sell and you want to buy 10 of them. You're going to pay more than if you buy 10,000 them because the ID is to get rid of as much as possible. In energy the whole theme of the country is to conserve save don't use as much we need it. We need it for the future. Then we believe that those people have her who are most frugal those people who can least afford. It will use a very minimum amount won't turn on the air conditioner unless it's unbelievably hot because it can't afford to build. We believe that they should have an inverted rate structure. For the first or minimum amount of hours kilowatt-hours and they should be because as your reward when you're trying to get rid of a lot you should also reward when you're trying to conserve to those who do conserve a lot of the younger people are very disgusting and maybe a lot of us are discussing about the way things are going but we know from past experience we know that hard times going to be turn around cuz we seen it happen. We seen it in the thirties turn around 2 or things became quite well overnight. So we we've got a great country here and then can we turn around? I think that's the talk about the power of the labor movement is great and sometimes some people are fearful of it, but they always work for the good of their people. The seniors there are in this state. Over 400,000 seniors 200,000 Union people in the seniors are are organizing and they're going to make their voices heard. They're going to be heard a lot of seniors appear to be faced with a very complex problem in that they may be retired on a fixed income because of inflation. The the pension is far too low to live on at least a comfortable living in retirement yet at the same time the only alternative to their problems if he has to be from state or federal government what they may consider handouts or brakes or whatever and a lot of retired people are far too independent to 1 to get into receiving added subsidies from Washington or from from St.Paul day at 3. Socialistic to them. They don't want to get into that. How do they remedy this problem? I don't know. I guess we all tried to tell seniors and need more eligible for food stamps that this is there right there in title of this part of the power program. But they're proud and proud people and they don't have a lot of themselves this many people many elderly who are very low Social Security and are eligible for supplemental security income for the state have an applied and you who read about hear about that. Apparently the message isn't getting out. The message is out that people just want to come forward and and apply they they sacrifice and they exist barely exists, but they're too proud of people do they feel that? This is a a hand out and they don't want to listen that has it seems that are there for them. They're entitled to
