Indian Art opening at the Walker IDS center collection includes carved, elaborately painted masks, blankets, clothing, head dresses, pottery, bowls, dolls, large-scale carved figures, basketry, woodcarving, musical instruments and shields. The collection is being treated as art rather than anthological objects, says Walker curator. The collection includes artifacts from Indians throughout the United States including Alaskan Eskimos. Gary Hood, of Choctaw ancestry, discusses the exhibit.
