March 12, 2004 - Paul Gruchow, the award-winning Minnesota writer, died Feb. 22 of a presumed drug overdose. He was honored Friday at a memorial reading organized by his publisher, Minneapolis-based Milkweed Editions. His books include Boundary Waters: The Grace of the Wild, winner of a 1998 Minnesota Book Award's Flanagan Prize; The Necessity of Empty Places; and Grass Roots: The Universe of Home, winner of a 1996 Minnesota Book Award.
February 24, 2004 - Gruchow made countless appearances on Minnesota Public Radio. In October of 1997, he was a guest on the Midmorning program. He spoke about how the natural environment impacted him as a person.
February 24, 2004 - Photographer Jim Brandenburg reflects on his friend, Paul Gruchow, who died on February 22nd, 2004 in Duluth. Gruchow was 56 years old. Brandenburg worked with Gruchow at the Worthington newspaper and later collaborated with him on several books. He says he was inspired by his friend and co-worker.
April 20, 1998 - Author Paul Gruchow is one the winners in this year's Minnesota Book Awards. Gruchow won the top honor, known as the Flanagan Prize, for his book of essays entitled "Boundary Waters: The Grace of the Wild." Twenty-one prizes were handed out Friday night. This is the second award that Gruchow has won. He joins us now by phone.

Profile includes readings of Leopold’s writings by Gene Harrington. Also presents interviews with contemporaries Paul Gruchow and Gaylord Nelson; Curt Meine, Leopold biographer; Charles Bradley of the Leopold Reserve; and Brent Haglund, president of Sand County Foundation. This Minnesota Public Radio documentary was originally produced for Earth Day 1990.
