February 15, 2001 - A new poll commissioned by Minnesota Public Radio and the St. Paul Pioneer Press suggests many Minnesotans would rather hold down tuition at the University of Minnesota than get a tax cut or rebate. The poll says holding down tuition is ALSO more important to Minnesotans than raising faculty salaries....and that University President Mark Yudof's job approval rivals Governor Ventura's. January 8, 2001 - FOR MONDAY ATC 1-8 University of Minnesota President Mark Yudof went before a powerful House committee today (Monday) to begin the process of drumming up support for the school's largest state budget request in history. Yudof highlighted the U-of-M's accomplishments and gently reminded lawmakers why STATE money is important to the school's overall budget. Minnesota Public Radio's Patty Marsicano reports:
December 20, 2000 - The University of Minnesota football team has suspended 12 players for stealing and using a long distance access code. They have until Friday to make full restitution, or they miss out on next week's bowl game in Florida. Minnesota Public Radio's Patty Marsicano reports.
December 7, 2000 - A tenative settlement has been reached in a class action sex discrimination lawsuit against St. Cloud State University. The suit had alleged the school paid women less money than men, denied them valid promotions, and allowed sexual harassment to occur. The proposed settlement would affect between 200 and 250 female faculty members and ends more than four years of litigation. Minnesota Public Radio's Patty Marsicano reports:
November 23, 2000 - Barge shipping on the Mississippi River is winding down for the season. Typically 400 or so towboats ply the upper Mississippi River moving barges loaded with grain and other products headed to markets around the world. Minnesota Public Radio's Patty Marsicano spent some time aboard a towboat earlier this fall and found, there's no such thing as "stopping for the night."
