October 30, 2006 - Minnesota's candidates for governor sparred last night (SUN) in their first televised debate of the campaign. During a debate broadcast live on KSTP-TV and three affiliated ABC stations around the state, Republican Governor Tim Pawlenty, DFL candidate Mike Hatch and the Independence Party's Peter Hutchinson disagreed on issues such as transportation, immigration and property taxes. The debate also offered a glimpse into the personalities of these three men, as they talked about what they liked and disliked about each other. Minnesota Public Radio's Laura McCallum reports.

The debate was held at the University of Minnesota's Ted Mann Concert Hall, and was co-sponsored by the U of M's Communication Studies Department and Debate Minnesota, a non-profit, multi-partisan organization established by the Independent Bankers of Minnesota to promote civility in politics.

December 22, 2005 - Minnesota Attorney General Mike Hatch has announced a series of legislative proposals to help Minnesotans guard against identity theft. The so-called 2006 Consumer Privacy Protection Package aims to close loopholes in the state's privacy laws. The measures seek to protect telephone and cell phone records and also allows Minnesota consumers to freeze access to their credit information. Minnesota Public Radio's Greta Cunningham has more.
November 22, 2005 - MPR’s Art Hughes reports that two Minnesota legislators are proposing a bill to guard against invasive species hitchhiking in ocean-going ships on Lake Superior. The legislation would require big international ships that travel in Lake Superior to treat ballast water before dumping it into the lake.
December 15, 2004 - Some DFL state officials are proposing that the state offer health care benefits and no-interest loans to Minnesota National Guard members and reservists. They say the high number of overseas deployments is placing a tremendous burden on families.
