August 30, 2000 - Minneapolis and Saint Paul have had their share of zoning battles over adult businesses. But it's not just a big city problem. Several smaller communities around the state are now facing their own zoning disputes with strip clubs. Adult business owners say those local governements are hiding behind harsh zoning laws as a way to unfairly discriminate against their businesses. Mainstreet Radio's Marisa Helms reports.

June 29, 2000 - Since DFL lawmaker Leslie Schumacher's (SHOE mah cur) 18 year old daughter was arrested late last week on drug charges, she has steadfastly denied any knowledge of her daughter's activities. But today (Thursday) an allegation surfaced came forward that she did in fact know of her daughter's involvement in the production of methanphetamine. Schumacher is up for re-election this fall. What effect her daughter's actions will have on her campaign may depend not only on what she does, but on what her political opponents do. Minnesota Public Radio's Marisa (Muh-REE-suh) Helms reports. {DFL Representative Leslie Schumacher was facing a a potentially tough political race in a central Minnesota house district targeted by republicans even BEFORE the arrest of her 18 year old daughter Jeana. The Sherburne County Attorney has charged Jeana Schumacher with conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine and child endangerment. The charges allegedly stem from activities in a building owned by Representative Schumacher in Santiago.
June 26, 2000 - The city of Saint Cloud is debating whether to join a federally organized coalition designed to force gun manufacturers to add safety features to their weapons. Earlier this year, the nation's oldest and biggest gunmaker Smith and Wesson created a shockwave by announcing it would settle 14 of the lawsuits against the company by agreeing to several restrictions and safety provisions for sale and distribution of Smith and Wesson guns. The U-S Department of Housing and Urban Development brokered that agreement and has stayed involved by creating the "Communities for Safer Guns Coalition." Now requests have gone out to local governments across the country, including Saint Cloud, asking them to join the Coalition. Mainstreet Radio's Marisa (Muh-REE-suh) Helms reports.
