November 17, 2003 - A group of St. Paul community activists plans to kick off a petition drive today (MONDAY) to try to recall Ramsey County Sheriff Bob Fletcher. The people organizing the petition drive say Fletcher abused his power after a city council candidate debate last month. Fletcher took a stack of cards containing questions for the candidates, after one of the cards read aloud by the moderator made claims about the relationship between Fletcher and candidate Kris Reiter (RY-der) that both say are false. Fletcher says he and Reiter were defamed, and he didn't abuse his authority when he took the cards. Minnesota Public Radio's Laura McCallum reports...
October 31, 2003 - Four members of the committee that came up with proposed new social studies requirements say the standards are so flawed they can't be fixed. The committee meets tomorrow (SATURDAY) to begin revising the proposed standards. Critics say the first draft is biased and not age-appropriate for students. Governor Pawlenty says some of the critics are equally biased. Minnesota Public Radio's Laura McCallum reports.

October 21, 2003 - In the days after Minnesota Senator Paul Wellstone's death in 2002’, politicians from across the political spectrum said they would help build a memorial to him at a St. Paul community center. Congress appropriated nearly nine-million dollars to build the Paul and Sheila Wellstone Center for Community Building on the site of Neighborhood House on St. Paul's West Side.

September 29, 2003 - All Things Considered’s David Molpus talks with MPR’s Laura McCallum, who is traveling with Governor Tim Pawlenty delegation on a trade mission in Canada. Pawlenty is trying to push Minnesota to pursue research partnerships and business opportunities with Quebec. The governor met with Montreal Premier Jean Charest.
September 26, 2003 - Governor Pawlenty leaves Sunday on his first trade mission, a two-day trip to Montreal. The governor says he wants to promote Minnesota's biosciences and medical industries. Pawlenty says he doesn't plan to announce any trade deals while in Montreal, but says the trip's cost to the state of about 20-thousand dollars will pay off in increased trade with the state's largest trading partner. Others aren't so sure. Minnesota Public Radio's Laura McCallum reports.
