Carol Bly was born in Duluth, but spent part of her childhood living with her aunts in rural North Carolina because her mother was often hospitalized. Bly talked about her mother during an interview with Dan Olson in March of 1999.

June 4, 2007 - MPR's Laura McCallum profiles Bill Chorske, a retired Medtronic executive who has awarded scholarships to low-income students from Edison High School in northeast Minneapolis. Chorske graduated from Edison in 1954.
May 14, 2007 - As Minnesota's population becomes more diverse, the state's schools are educating more students learning English as a second language. One Twin Cities charter school serves mostly immigrant children, many of them from Muslim countries in Africa, Asia and the Middle East. Tarek ibn Ziyad Academy in Inver Grove Heights has focused on teaching English language learners to read. As a result, the school's reading test scores are among the highest in the state. January 31, 2007 - Several hundred people packed a meeting room in north Minneapolis last night to tell Minnesota lawmakers their concerns about education. Two House education committees held a joint hearing at the Glover-Suddeth community center. Lawmakers wanted to hear about closing the achievement gap, but they also got an earful about the challenges facing urban schools. Minnesota Public Radio's Laura McCallum reports.

During a debate broadcast live on KSTP-TV and three affiliated ABC stations around the state, Republican Governor Tim Pawlenty, DFL candidate Mike Hatch and the Independence Party's Peter Hutchinson disagreed on issues such as transportation, immigration and property taxes.
