May 2, 1996 - No simple slogan has emerged yet, characterizing the issues of the 1996 presidential campaign. Back in 1992 it was about "The Economy Stupid!" But as Minnesota Public Radio's Karen-Louise Boothe reports, a group of policy makers, pundits, journalists and community leaders is attempting to define the issues this campaign season.
January 15, 1996 - Hour 2 of Midmorning, featuring Voices of Minnesota with Arvonne Fraser, a human and women's rights activist, and Marlene Kim Connor, author of "What Is Cool?: Understanding Black Manhood in America," on the roots of cool.
December 29, 1995 - On a vote of 12-to-1, with Councilmember Walt Dziedzc being the one dissenter. Minneapolis city leaders agreed to re-negotiate a garbage disposal contract with Hennepin County.
October 6, 1995 - MPR’s Karen Louise Boothe reports that the Governor's Task Force on Lesbian and Gay Minnesotans has completed its study and submitted recommendations to the Governor Carlson’s office. The 81-page report covers a range of issues, including youth, politics, education, and greater Minnesota. Recommendations include safe environment in schools, education training, and improving climate in smaller and rural areas.
June 19, 1995 - MPR’s Karen Louise Boothe visits the Linwood Community Center, as she profiles the unique circumstances that older gay and lesbians face in the senior care setting. Boothe interviews individuals and health officials about the concerns and experiences of elderly gay and lesbians.
