A. Leon Higginbotham Jr. - The Roots of Brown and Bakke
October 20, 1977 - Judge Leon Higginbotham, of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit in Philadelphia, speaking at From Brown to Bakke and Beyond conference, held at Carleton College in Northfield. Higginbotham’s speech was titled “The Roots of Brown and Bakke", and addressed what has happened since the case Brown vs. the Topeka Board of Education decision declared separate but equal to be unconstitutional.
Higginbotham was for 13 years a U.S. District Court Judge for Eastern Pennsylvania. He has written a book about race and the law in this country titled, "The Matter of Color: Race and the American Legal Process."
