January 4, 2001 - Governor Ventura will give the State of the State speech at 3:00 this afternoon in the house chambers. The event is always a big one at the capitol. It's a rare time when both the House and Senate meet in a joint session. Now, Ventura didn't give a State of the State last year, so legislators say they'll be listening carefully to hear the governor's agenda for the 2001 session. Joining us is Cindy Brucato... she was chief of staff for former Governor Arne Carlson.
January 4, 2001 - Reliant Energy Minnegasco is warning its customers to expect significantly higher gas bills over the next few months. The company says it EXPECTED rates to go up this winter, but the increases are even higher than they originally thought. Joining us on the line is Joe Klenken, regulatory specialist for Reliant.

December 21, 2000 - Minnesota's homeless population has more than doubled over the past decade. That's according to early results from a survey conducted by the Wilder Research Center in October. The largest growth in homelessness was among children in both urban and rural regions of the state. People who died homeless in Minnesota this past year will be remembered tonight at a memorial service in Minneapolis. Monica Nelson, director of the Simpson Shelter in Minneapolis and organizer of the service, speaks with MPR News.
December 21, 2000 - The Minnesota Department of Transporation has released preliminary findings of the eight week experiment during which ramp meters were turned off in the Twin Cities metrolopolitan area. MNDOT spokesman Mike Sobolewski says these findings show some definite trends.
December 21, 2000 - Lawmakers are criticizing Governor Jesse Ventura's job as an XFL football commentator. One of them even wants to ban the governor from holding outside jobs, saying Ventura is using his office to get the work. The Governor has in turn said many state legislators hold jobs outside their official duties, and if they can do it, why can't he? State Senator Ember Reichgott-Junge joins MPR News to talk about what the rules are for legislators.
December 20, 2000 - As President-elect Bush figures out who he wants in his Cabinet one of the names that is mentioned prominently is Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson. Thompson met with Bush yesterday and is considered the leading candidate for Secretary of Heatlth and Human Services. Steve Walters covers the governor for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and speaks with MPR News.
December 20, 2000 - Former State Epidemiologist Michael Osterholm says the best way to prevent many of outbreaks of e-coli and listeria is through cold pasteurization and irradiation.
