January 28, 2005 - MPR’s Jeff Horwich interviews Dr. Harry Hull, a state epidemiologist, about the State Department temporarily Hmong resettlement after a case of Tuberculosis was identified in one refugee already in Minnesota. Four more refugees are suspected of having TB and are undergoing more testing.
January 25, 2005 - MPR’s Jeff Horwich talks with classical music host Brian Newhouse about Osmo Vanska and the Lhatki Symphony Orchestra, which is performing at Orchestra Hall. Vanska pulls off a musical feat, as he is both music director for the Minnesota Orchestra and Lhatki’s chief conductor.
December 8, 2004 - The Pew Internet and American Life Project raised some hackles this week with a survey declaring "the vast majority" of artists and musicians "do not see online file-sharing as a big threat." The survey found artists heavily divided on the issue of music swapping. For example, roughly half say it should be legal to make a copy of a song and send it to a friend. The other half say it should be against the law.
November 5, 2004 - Economists are still looking for signs the job market is healthy again. But for those who are not healthy themselves even looking for a job is a major challenge, in good times and bad. More than 20 percent of working-age Minnesotans have a disability of some sort. Others are recovering from addiction that sent their working lives off the rails. Minnesota Public Radio's Jeff Horwich looks at the market for Minnesota's so-called "challenged job-seekers."
November 3, 2004 - Supporters of Democratic Presidential Candidate John Kerry won a bitter victory in Minnesota. Democrats here got out the vote the way they'd hoped, using strategies that fell short in other battleground states. The implications are mixed. By winning Minnesota, Kerry may have boosted state Democratic races., but he could well have hurt his own chance to become the next president. Minnesota Public Radio's Lorna Benson reports.
November 1, 2004 - The presidential candidates were still talking issues today. But for their campaigns in Minnesota, the focus has turned almost entirely away from convincing undecideds. Instead, they're making sure every possible supporter casts a ballot tomorrow.
August 6, 2004 - Ok, so we've all heard about the raging success of Apple's iTunes music store. Newsweek tells us we're an "iPod nation." But Apple is not the only game in town. One competitor in particular has garnered a devoted following by going in a different direction, ten dollars a month to stream any song or album in their catalog, any time you want. Some analysts think RealNetworks' Rhapsody service could represent the greatest challenge to Apple's early dominance in digital music.
August 5, 2004 - Seems like you can find anything with Google. Great, right? Not so great, when you can find your own credit card number. CNET, the technology news site, found it's disturbingly easy to pull up personal financial information using the world's most popular search engine. CNET staff writer Rob Lemos did the story.
