June 19, 2013 - Vince Flynn, the St. Paul native novelist died this morning. He was 47. Flynn was a New York Times best selling author of "The Last Man," his most recent 'Mitch Rapp' thriller series book. But, in this MPR interview in 2000, he said his start into book-writing wasn't easy.
November 19, 2007 - As we head into Thanksgiving many of us dust off that copy of Grandma's stuffing recipe and try to re-create our Great Aunt's pumpkin pie. Some family recipes may have gotten lost over the past years. It's these misplaced recipes that are at the center of Christopher Kimball's new book "American's Best Lost Recipes." Kimball is the founder and editor of "Cooks Illustrated" magazine. Minnesota Public Radio's Greta Cunningham spoke with Christopher Kimball.
September 13, 2007 - Hundreds of people who assisted at the 35-W bridge collapse site are guests of honor at a special ceremony in downtown Minneapolis this evening. Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak, Police Chief Tim Dolan, and Fire Chief James Clack and others will offer their thanks in person this morning to the many first responders who helped during the 35-W Bridge collapse. Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek says today's events are a good-will gesture by the businesses and citizens of the city and state.
September 13, 2007 - Rescue and recovery workers from the 35-W Bridge collapse are being honored today. Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak, Police Chief Tim Dolan, and Fire Chief James Clack and others will offer their thanks in person to the many first responders who saved lives and helped in other ways on August 1st. Hennepin County Sheriff Rich Stanek says he's expecting a couple hundred guests for a ceremony tonight at M-and-S Steakhouse and Grille.
August 27, 2007 - Survivors of the Minneapolis bridge collapse have an opportunity this week to get counseling and connect with others who endured the same trauma. A group called Survivors Resources is sponsoring the get-together Wednesday. Spokeswoman Margaret McAbee says it's vital that survivors share their feelings.
August 15, 2007 - State legislators will discuss the design for a new Interstate 35-W bridge during a House-Senate hearing this afternoon. Minneapolis officials are unhappy that the plans for the bridge don't include a light rail line. State transportation officials have said including LRT is too expensive and will cause too much delay in rebuilding the bridge. Minneapolis City Council member, Paul Ostrow, says legally the city has the right to not give its municipal consent if the new bridge design does not meet the city's standards.
