August 3, 2000 - The jury in the the Donald Blom murder trial today heard a tape of a Blom confessing to kidnapping and killing Katie Poirier. Blom later recanted on the confession, but despite defense objections it is being allowed in evidence . Minnesota Public Radio's Stephanie Hemphill was in the Virginia Courtroom today and has an update.
July 20, 2000 - An expert from the state bureau of criminal apprehension crime lab told jurors the Donald Blom Murder and kidnapping trial today the lab was unable to find any fingerprints or DNA evidence linking Donald Blom to the diappearance of Katie Poirier. During cross examination defence attornies hammered home the lack of physical evidence in the case. Minneasota Public Radio;s Stephanie Hemphill reports from St Louis County Courthouse in Virginia.
July 18, 2000 - Baseball's top official, Commissioner Bud Selig, meets with a statewide civic group tonight to discuss ways to keep the Minnesota Twins here, including the much discussed strategy of building a stadium The issue has been out of the spotlight for a while, but that doesn't mean the passion has gone out of baseball. Neither commentator Nanci Oleson nor her husband have been baseball fans. It's often the curse of such individuals to have sports-crazed jocks as children.

July 3, 2000 - As the clock strikes midnight and July 8th dawns, the fourth Harry Potter book will finally be revealed ----til now its been cloaked in secrecy -- even the title of the book "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" was only leaked a few days ago. Even so its already on the bestseller lists through advance sales and a record number of copies are being published in anticipation of phenomenal demand. But as Minnesota Public Radio's Mary Stucky, reports not everybody's impressed with the Harry Potter juggernaut.

May 2, 2000 - In John Lanchester's new novel "Mr Phillips" the title character wakes to begin his first day in the ranks of the unemployed. He's been laid off, "downsized", and can't bring himself to tell his family. The book chronicles the first 12 hours of an experience which Lanchester told Minnesota Public Radio's Euan Kerr many people go through, but few talk about.
