January 8, 1974 - A public meeting was held to determine if an environmental impact statement (EIS) would be required before a proposed Northern States Power (NSP) fossil fuel plant could be built near Henderson, Minnesota. Both the Environmental Quality Commission (EQC) agreed to the preparation of an EIS, with the PCA (Pollution Control Agency) being the lead agency in the preparation in consultation with the DNR (Department of Natural Resources). SAVE, (Save American?s Vital Energy), a Henderson citizen group, was present to express their views. They were pleased with the EIS decision but were concerned they were only allowed to speak after much discussion had already taken place. Reporter voiceover, no actualities.
November 29, 1973 - Rabbi and political activist Arthur Waskow discusses the need to focus on impeachment of Richard Nixon, criticizing the establishment's supposed desire to have the president resign. Waskow also discusses the need to develop systems that will check absolute presidential power.
November 27, 1973 - An interview with unknown Minnesota government official to determine the lack of communication between the legislature and the governor regarding the energy crisis. Interview includes overview of speed of reaction to issue at hand, as well as the scope of effects and hearings relating to said items.
October 18, 1973 - Both teacher unions, the MEA and MFT, are holding conventions. Speaker Richard Foster at the MEA asked whether accountability will create change or not. At the MFT meeting Senate Majority Leader Nick Coleman said a recent error discovered in state birth projections means some 300,000 fewer students will be in elementary and secondary schools in the 1980's and 1990's. He remarked the teacher/pupil ratio would have to be cut to just over eleven to one to employ the current number of teachers, and that won?t happen. In ten years we won?t need the state college system as it presently exists as there won?t be that many students. Plans should be made now to deal with that reality.
