October 15, 2003 - Community activists in Minneapolis expressed outrage today (WEDS) over allegations of police brutality by Minneapolis police officers. Minneapolis police have asked the FBI to investigate the allegation. Members of groups which represent several communities of color say they believe an African American male suspect was sexually assaulted while in custody Monday afternoon. The activists are demanding a federal civil rights investigation of the Minneapolis department. MPR's Brandt Williams reports

September 22, 2003 - Nearly all of the Minneapolis firefighters who were laid off this spring will return to duty this week. The fire department was able to rehire 31 of the 32 active firefighters who lost their jobs due to city budget cuts. Department officials say they were able to rehire them after finding ways to save money and bring in additional revenue. Minnesota Public Radio's Brandt Williams reports

September 3, 2003 - The Midtown Public Market is located at the intersection of two major streets and multiple cultures in South Minneapolis. The market is based in one of the most diverse areas of the state, home to growing populations of asian, latino and African immigrant communities. August 20, 2003 - Thirty members of the Minnesota National Guard's 34th Military Police Company will be deployed to Afghanistan. The soldiers are expected to be on duty for a year, providing security support at an unnamed U.S. installation in the war torn country. This morning (WEDS), members of the Company and their families were honored at a deployment celebration held in Rosemount. Minnesota Public Radio's Brandt Williams reports
