March 10, 2003 - County commissioners and other local leaders, are looking for ways to cope with the funding cuts in Governor Tim Pawlenty's budget. The governor's spending plan calls for cuts in many programs to fill a $4.2 billion shortfall. February 13, 2003 - Mainstreet Radio’s Bob Reha attends final rehearsals of "Memorial," which debuts at the Nobel Peace Prize Forum in Moorhead. For Rene' Clausen, conductor of the Concordia College Choir, it was a daunting task. Clausen was commissioned by the American Choral Directors Association to write a piece that captured the emotional and spiritual elements of the September 11th tragedy.
October 7, 2002 - Next month North Dakota voters will decide whether their state should join with others in a lottery. Proponents say North Dakota is losing money. Thats because all the neighboring states and even Canadian provinces have lotteries. Three times North Dakota voters have said no to a lottery. But its back on the ballot again. September 19, 2002 - Residents of the Red River Valley are all too familiar with flooding. It's a common routine. Flood waters threaten towns. Roads and bridges wash away. Homes and crops are destroyed. But there's a plan some say will help. It's coming from researchers at the "Energy and Environmental Research Center" in Grand Forks, North Dakota. July 31, 2002 - For almost 80 years KFJM served listeners in the Grand Forks area. But today, {Tuesday},North Dakota's oldest public radio station stops local broadcasts. The station is owned by the University of North Dakota. It was the second radio station in the state to go on the air. A funding crunch has forced UND officials to shut down the radio station. June 17, 2002 - Various elected officials have been touring flood stricken areas of northwestern Minnesota. 13 counties have been declared federal disaster areas. Torrential rains swept through the region last week. The water washed away crops and destroyed roads. Much of the attention has focussed on Roseau, near the Canadian border. However people in Twin Valley, near Ada say they are going to need some help too. Mainstreet Radios Bob Reha reports.
June 10, 2002 - North Dakota's voters will decide tomorrow how banks will handle financial privacy. North Dakota banks and credit unions are pushing for what's known as "Measure 2." That would allow them to sell financial information without a customer's consent. The bankers say a "Yes" vote is vital for future economic development. Privacy advocates are urging a "No" vote on the measure. They say customer information should only be made available with each individual's consent. Mainstreet Radios Bob Reha reports. <
May 28, 2002 - Cass county officials in Fargo, North Dakota are being asked to stop demolition of the county's old jail. Preservationists say the jail and adjoining Sheriff's residence have historic value. But some believe their true worth could be as a youth center and rehearsal hall for the growing number of young bands in the Fargo-Moorhead area. Mainstreet Radios Bob Reha reports.
May 7, 2002 - When you go to the hospital you just assume doctors and nurses will have the equipment they need; simple things like bandages, stitches and catheters. There all packaged in boxes. But sometimes nurses don't use the whole box. The surplus items, still wrapped are tossed in the trash. In third world countries that trash could be a life saver. In Fargo-Moorhead a group of volunteers have created "HERO". It's the Healthcare Equipment Recycling Organization. Mainstreet Radios Bob Reha reports.
