March 30, 2018 - MPR News Presents broadcast of New York University historian Thomas Sugrue speaking at the Minnesota Historical Society's "History Forum.” Sugrue has written a book exploring the stories of Northern activists who challenged racial inequality titled "Sweet Land of Liberty: The Forgotten Struggle for Civil Rights in the North." Prominently featured in this book is Anna Arnold Hedgeman, who grew up in Anoka and was the first African-American to attend Hamline.
November 20, 2016 - MPR’s Lorna Benson reports on a Ramsey County court ruling that Minnesota's refusal to cover transition-related surgeries violates the state constitution. State lawmakers enacted the ban in 2005, selling it as a cost-saving measure, and it only applied to people receiving state Medical Assistance and MinnesotaCare benefits.
