November 11, 2004 - MPR's Brandt Williams reports that Minnesota Twins pitcher Johan Santana has been named the 2004 American League Cy Young award winner. The honor is given each year by the Baseball Writers association of America to the most statistically dominant pitchers in both Major League Baseball divisions. Santana, a 25-year-old left hander, recorded the most strikeouts of any pitcher in the American league, the lowest earned run average and the second highest number of victories.
July 13, 2004 - Expectations have always been high for Joe Mauer. Long before the Twins chose the St. Paul native as their top draft pick in 2001, Mauer was considered a sports phenom. If his rookie season is any indication, the Minnesota Twins catcher will be rubbing elbows with the league's other top talents in a not-too-distant All-Star game.
October 6, 2003 - MPR's William Wilcoxen reports that more than 55,000 fans crowded into the Metrodome only to see an 8-1 loss end the Minnesota Twins' baseball season. After winning the first game, the Twins scored only once in each of the next three games...allowing the Yankees to take the best-of-five playoff series three games to one.
October 1, 2003 - After two years worth of losses to the New York Yankees, the Minnesota Twins earned a victory when it mattered most. The Twins took the lead in their best-of-five-game playoff series by beating New York 3-1 in Yankee Stadium on the strength of strong Twins pitching and solid fielding.
September 30, 2003 - It's been more than thirty years since the Minnesota Twins last made back-to-back appearances in the post season, but the Central Division champion Twins begin playoff action for the second time in as many years when they take the field in New York against the Eastern Division champion Yankees. It caps a season that saw the Twins go from high hopes to utter disappointment and back again.
September 19, 2003 - MPR's William Wilcoxen reports on Minnesota Twins completion of a three game sweep of the Chicago White Sox with a 5-3 victory at the Metrodome. The win gives the Twins a three-and-a-half game lead over the White Sox in their race for the division title and a spot in the playoffs.
September 18, 2003 - The Twins will be trying to sweep their three game series with the Chicago White Sox when the teams take the field in the Metrodome. With a 4-2 victory the previous night, the Twins fattened their Central Division lead over the White Sox to two-and-a-half games.
October 14, 2002 - MPR's William Wilcoxen presents report on Minnesota Twins and their disappointing finish to a remarkable season. A magical season came to a crashing halt for the Twins as they gave up a playoff-record 10 runs in one inning to the Anaheim Angels, whose 13-5 victory brought baseball's American League pennant to southern California for the first time.
October 8, 2002 - Only one team stands between the Minnesota Twins and a spot in baseball's World Series. At the Metrodome, the Twins will take on the Anaheim Angels in the opening game of the American League Championship Series. The winner of the best of seven series will face either the Saint Louis Cardinals or (Braves/Giants) in baseball's Fall Classic.
January 4, 2002 - MPR's Tom Scheck reports that the Minnesota Twins may not be a team next year but at least they have a new manager. The team announced third base coach Ron Gardenhire will receive a two year guaranteed contract to replace Tom Kelly, contraction or not.
