July 11, 1994 - Dan Quayle, former vice -president, at Minnesota Meeting in downtown Minneapolis. Quayle’s address was on the topic of his book, politics, and reform. Following address, Quayle answered audience questions. Minnesota Meeting is a non-profit corporation which hosts a wide range of public speakers. It is managed by the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota.
July 13, 1994 - Midday presents Peter G. Peterson, president of the Concord Coalition and former U.S. Secretary of Commerce, speaking at Minnesota Meeting. Peterson’s address was on U.S. economy and federal deficit. Following speech, Peterson answered audience questions.
July 15, 1994 - Midday presents Albert Reynolds, prime minister of Ireland, speaking at University of Minnesota's Humphrey Institute. Reynolds’ address was titled, "A Charter for Peace and Reconciliation in Ireland." After address Reynolds answered audience questions, which were presented from the podium by Robert Kudrle, Associate Dean of the Humphrey Institute.
July 19, 1994 - Senate Minority Leader Bob Dole and President Bill Clinton speaking before the Plenary Session of the National Governors Association Convention in Boston's Hynes Convention Center. Speeches highlighted differing views on proposals for federal health care coverage. The biggest debate is the issue of universal coverage. Following speeches, MPR’s Dan Olson interviews Dave Durenberger, Minnesota U.S. Senator (I-R), who provides commentary about legislative health care reform.
July 22, 1994 - This Midday program presents various political segments: Don Samuelson, DFL gubernatorial candidate, abruptly announces his withdrawal; Arne Carlson speech on the steps of the State Capital; and James Renier speaking at the Center for Corporate Responsibility annual meeting held at the University of St. Thomas.
August 12, 1994 - An AP Network special report with President Clinton’s remarks to the National Association of Police Organizations at the Marriott City Center in Minneapolis. Sharon Sayles Belton, mayor of Minneapolis; Edward Rendell, mayor of Philadelphia; Norm Coleman, mayor of St. Paul; and Rudolph Giuliani, mayor of New York City, briefly speak prior to Clinton. Mick Ganley, Minneapolis police Sargent, introduces President Clinton.
August 12, 1994 - MPR’s Tom Fudge reports on Minneapolis Mayor Sharon Sayles Belton’s first city budget presented to the Minneapolis City Council. Rather a detailed plan, Belton highlighted statements and goals, with a focus on spending cuts and no additional property taxes.
August 15, 1994 - Sister Helen Prejean, lecturer and death row "inmate advocate,” speaking at Twin Cities seminar on the death penalty, sponsored by the group "Minnesota Advocates for Human Rights". In address, Prejean talked about her contact with death row inmates and the families of the victims, as well as her efforts to inform people of the financial and social costs of the death penalty.
August 18, 1994 - Jon Gordon reports on St. Paul School Board Teaching and Learning Committee’s hearing regarding gay & lesbian support groups in the school district. Report includes commentary from both opponents and proponents of the program for gay and lesbian students.
August 19, 1994 - President Clinton press conference on Cuban boat crisis. Clinton announces that Cuban refugees will not be accepted into the United States. He then speaks on status of Crime Bill. Clinton also answers questions form the press.
