July 28, 2004 - Mainstreet Radio's Mark Steil profiles Harry Yang, a Hmong immigrant who decided to leave Twin Cities for Walnut Grove and Southwest Minnesota, home of "Little House on the Prairie." Yang says he finds more freedom and peace of mind here, though challenges remain.
July 30, 2004 - Several Minneapolis city councilmembers took part in a unique study session on neighborhood crime today. The councilmembers boarded a tour bus and drove through some of the city's most well-known spots for criminal activity. The purpose of the trip was to give them a more personal view of the city's neighborhood crime problem.
August 6, 2004 - Mainstreet Radio's Erin Galbally reports on former pro wrestler Brock Lesnar as he participates in try-outs for the Minnesota Vikings. Lesnar wants to be a pro football player. The only problem is he hasn't played since high school.
August 9, 2004 - MPR’s Brandt Williams takes a look at probably the ugliest racial slur ever created. It is a word known primarily as a means to denigrate African Americans. The word packs such power to represent overt racial hatred, most people - regardless of race - will not even utter it. How can one word have such power?
August 9, 2004 - Nearly 200 refugees from Burma are arriving in Minnesota. They are members of an ethnic minority called the Karen. They are part of a wave of 4000 resettling in the United States. The Karen have been fighting and losing a civil war with Burma's military leaders for 55 years. The Burmese military has tortured, raped and killed thousands of Karen people. Many of the Karen arriving in Minnesota have been living in refugee camps in Thailand.
August 19, 2004 - A group of Hmong refugees who left St. Paul in June arrived in Washington, D.C. on August 19th, 2004, many of them on foot. Some walked the entire 1100 miles journey; others joined en route. MPR’s David Molpus talks with two involved in march.
August 20, 2004 - MPR’s Chris Roberts talks with Minneapolis singer-songwriter Mark Edwards about his CD "Rewind Tomorrow." Formally of The Domo Sound, Edwards now goes by the moniker The Original Mark Edwards.
August 23, 2004 - Political consultant Dick Morris is often credited with propelling Bill Clinton into the White House for a second term, despite having to resign before the campaign ended amid a prostitution scandal. He's not a Democrat, though. An avowed independent, Morris voted for Al Gore in 2000, but this year, he's thrown his support behind President George W. Bush. He explained his politics and offered his analysis of the American political process at the Commonwealth Club of California on August 10.
August 25, 2004 - Mainstreet Radio's Cara Hetland reports on Ralph Nader’s visit to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In a speech, Nader says the only way to change government is to get involved. He talked for more than two hours criticizing corporate greed, the Bush administration, and the war in Iraq. Nader says historically the nation's best laws have been a reaction to citizen outrage.
August 26, 2004 - Mainstreet Radio’s Bob Reha reports that while schools aren't open yet, report cards are being released nonetheless. The reports won't go to students, but to their schools.
