November 4, 1998 - Tim Penny and Tom Horner address the Minnesota Meeting. They discuss the post-election results and impact, followed by a question and answer period. Tim McGuire, Editor of the Star Tribune, hosts meeting. Minnesota Meeting is a non-profit corporation which hosts a wide range of public speakers. It is managed by the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota.
December 2, 1998 - For St. Paulites it's getting to be old hat, but Minneapolitans are just getting used to the idea of a new area code tentatively approved by state regulators. The Public Utilities Commission picked 9-5-2 as the new area code for Minneapolis, Richfield and the Fort Snelling area. The move comes a month before callers in St. Paul and other east Twin Cities area communities must begin using the 6-5-1 area code instead of 6-1-2.
December 16, 1998 - MPR’s Gary Eichten interviews Steven Schier, Carleton College political science professor, about Thursday's impeachment debate. Topic of the inevitability of impeachment is addressed. Jesse Ventura's upset victory in the race for Governor was such a shock, it's already an early candidate for biggest news story of the DECADE. His success caught almost everybody by surprise -- the media, the political parties, and especially his opponents.
January 1, 1999 - It looks like a hospital in Boston can claim the first baby of 1999 after all. Earlier a Jacksonville, Florida hospital said it had a baby born at one second after midnight -- Boston's was two seconds after. But now, the Florida hospital says the baby was born one minute after the new year began -- and not one second. For Commentator Kelley Garry, no matter what the timing of her baby's birth, she still wasn't quite ready.
