August 24, 1999 - Anglers on Mille Lacs Lake are seeing the best walleye catch in at least seven years. Half a million pounds of walleye have been taken from the lake this summer; another 200-thousand pounds caught and released. While thats great for resorters and tourists, it also means the so-called safe harvest level for Mille Lacs has already been exceeded, with the popular fall fishing season still to come.

August 27, 1999 - A "Talk of Minnesota" program, presenting the views of MPR listeners on tax rebate checks. Topics include questions of what should be done with them; should the government have kept the money; should overall taxes be cut; who should get the credit for the nation's biggest tax cut.
August 27, 1999 - It's ALL THINGS CONSIDERED on Minnesota Public Radio. I'm Lorna Benson. This Saturday night at 7:00 you'll notice a new sound on Minnesota Public Radio (music up) "The Jazz Image" hosted by Leigh Kamman will gradually leave its spot on the classical music stations of MPR and move to the news side. Tonight on All Things Considered, we wanted to introduce Kamman to our news audience, plus it's always good to have an excuse to talk with quite possibly the nicest man in the radio business. Kamman began his career in broadcasting almost sixty years ago. He's interviewed all the greats: Louis Armstrong, Billie Holliday, Count Basie you name it. He's broadcast from Harlem, San Francisco and even an Army Hospital during World War Two. Since 1973, he's been a fixture on Minnesota Public Radio.

August 30, 1999 - To close out the millennium, Minnesota Public Radio's All Things Considered presents a look back at Minnesota life in 1900 via a 12-part series, entitled “A Minnesota Century.” This segment is the the story of Rhoda Emery, a young woman who thought she would never make it as a schoolteacher, but ended up dedicating 50 years to the profession.
