June 9, 1999 - High school seniors are marking the end of a school year filled with hard choices and traditional pressures. At graduation, these young people either have their plans in place or remain undecided about what's next. But they are ALL thinking hard about leaving familiar surroundings and facing an uncertain future. Saint Paul's Johnson High is among the schools holding commencement exercises tonight, and Minnesota Public Radio's Tim Pugmire talked with members of the class of 1999.
June 9, 1999 - First in a two-part series on Devils Lake, Mainstreet Radio’s Dan Gunderson reports on the changes that have taken place to lake in northeast North Dakota, which has risen nearly 25 feet in the past six years. The lake has no natural outlet to release water and above normal precipitation in recent years has raised the lake to levels not seen in recorded history.
June 10, 1999 - For the last 40 years Ed Rusha has been taking the ordinary things of American life and making them extraordinary. Considered one of the most influential of American Graphic artists ... he makes pictures of buildings, signs, and sayings, giving each a whole new meaning. This weekend the Walker Art Center opens a major retrospective of Rusha's work including his famous books of pictures of gas stations and parking lots. Rusha is in Minneapolis for the opening, and walked round the show with Minnesota Public Radio's Euan Kerr.
June 10, 1999 - Only weeks after Mayor Norm Coleman proposed building a new baseball stadium in St. Paul, officials from Minneapolis and Hennepin County are floating a proposal of their own. Yesterday, city and county representatives met with Minnesota Twins owner Carl Pohlad to present their case for keeping the team west of the Mississippi.
June 10, 1999 - University of Minnesota officials aren't commenting on the possible buyout of men's basketball coach Clem Haskins' contract. Haskin's program has been under fire since academic fraud allegations surfaced in March, and published reports say talks are underway to negotiate the coach's departure.

Officials say with time running out, they are prepared to take drastic action. North Dakota officials say building an outlet now will control the water….but outlet plans have been stopped by opposition from Minnesota, Canada, and environmental groups.

June 15, 1999 - V-shaped formations of migrating geese often herald the beginnings of spring or fall for many Minnesotans. Other bird watchers notice the return of robins or the exodus of orioles on their way to another winter in the tropics. In his new book "Living on the Wind: Across the Hemisphere with Migratory Birds" ornithologist Scott Weidensaul says the journey many birds make is nothing short of miraculous. Equally amazing is the short time they have to rest, raise a family AND bulk up for their next big flight.
June 15, 1999 - Volunteers armed with petitions fanned out in the city's skyways today, part of an effort to acquire some 5000 signatures to put a Minnesota Twins ballpark proposal on the November ballot. The petition drive comes as a new poll indicates stadium proponents may face an uphill battle.
