October 1, 2003 - According to the criminal complaint against Susan Berkovitz, she told authorities she bought the gun she allegedly used in the Hennepin County Government Center shootings at a gun show. There are several federal and state laws that regulate gun shows in Minnesota but some say the rules need to be strengthened. October 1, 2003 - Prosecutors have until noon today to charge Susan Berkovitz for shooting two people on Monday at the Hennepin County Government Center. Berkovitz was arrested after fatally shooting her cousin, Shelley Joseph-Kordell and wounding attorney, Richard Hendrickson. The three were involved in a legal dispute over the estate of Berkovitz's father. Several people who came into contact with Berkovitz before Monday's incident say she displayed erratic behavior and harassed neighbors. October 1, 2003 - Changes in the state's medical insurance program for low-income Minnesotans took effect today (WEDNESDAY). The changes mean fewer people are eligible for MinnesotaCare and those who are eligible will have to pay more. Officials at hospitals such as the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis say they stand little chance of seeing additional payments from many poor patients. October 3, 2003 - Executives from Minnesota's manufacturing industry gave Governor Tim Pawlenty their wish-list for state government during three seperate roundtable discussions yesterday. The governor was looking for ideas on how to shore up an important part of Minnesota's economy. The high-paying sector has lost nearly 48 thousand jobs since the start of the recession in 2001.
