July 12, 2000 - A new poll suggests Texas Governor George W. Bush could be the first Republian presidential candidate to carry Minnesota since Richard Nixon's 1972 victory. A survey conducted for Minnesota Public Radio, the St. Paul Pioneer Press, and KARE-11 T-V shows Bush and Vice-President Al Gore in a statistical dead heat among likely Minnesota voters. July 12, 2000 - Minneapolis ad-man Bill Hillsman has agreed to run Presidential- hopeful Ralph Nader's media campaign. Hillsman gained reknown as the creator of popular television advertisements for Governor Jesse Ventura and Senator Paul Wellstone. Hillsman says the first phase of the campaign will be targeted at getting Nader included in the Presidential debates:

July 13, 2000 - Scientists at the university of Minnesota are a step closer to a treatment for an infection that kills thousands of people each year. The researchers have found a way to manipulate candida albicans, a common yeast that can turn dangerous in people with weak immune systems. An editorial in the current issue of the journal "Science", where the study is published, calls the findings a "landmark discovery." Minnesota Public Radio's Tom Scheck reports.
July 13, 2000 - DFL Senate candidate Mark Dayton has started his advertising blitz, spending more than 300-thousand dollars on television ads running statewide this week. Dayton is the third Democrat to buy up large chunks of airtime before the September primary. Attorney Michael Ciresi has had ads on the air for months, and DFL'er Rebecca Yanisch just finished a big television ad buy. July 13, 2000 - The campaign for control of the state legislature got an unofficial kick-off today. As nineteen Independence Party hopefuls filed their candidacies with the Secretary of State's office, House Republicans introduced their slate of potential freshman lawmakers. July 14, 2000 - MPR’s Lorna Benson interviews Ojibwe activist and White Earth band member Winona LaDuke, who is running mate for Green Party presidential hopeful Ralph Nader. The two ran together on the Green Party ticket four years ago but weren't able to capture any electoral votes. LaDuke says this time around, she and Nader are planning a much more aggressive campaign.
