March 8, 2001 - A division of Honeywell is laying off 500 employees at four Twin Cities area plants. The company says the layoffs are unrelated to the pending merger with General Electric. But that merger is expected to result in tens of thousands of layoffs company-wide eventually. Minnesota Public Radio's Bill Catlin reports.
March 8, 2001 - In 1994, the Pew Charitable Trust gave the state and three counties $1.5 million to use for Children, Families, and Learning. In 1998, they didn't spend all the money. They illegally gave the money to the United Way of Olmstead County as means of a bank account.

They've been meeting since Wednesday at a hotel in Arlington Virginia, just >outside of Washington D.C. They're expected to remain at the negotiating table right up to >the deadline Sunday, when a 30-day cooling off period expires, UNLESS they reach an agreement before >then. March 9, 2001 - President George W. Bush today said he'll do whatever he can to prevent airline strikes this year, starting with Northwest Airlines. The president signed an executive order this morning creating a Presidential Emergency Board, preventing Northwest's union mechanics from striking for almost two months. The union had said it might stop work as early as Sunday night. Mark Zdechlik of Minnesota Public Radio reports from Arlington, Virgina, where 11th hour talks between the airline and the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association have been underway since Wednesday.

March 12, 2001 - Officials with the state Department of Children, Families and Learning say they're taking steps to prevent any further misuse of grant money within their agency. A state senate committee today (Monday) looked at the allegations uncovered in a recent Legislative Auditor's investigation. Those investigators are now promising a sweeping review of grant money in all state agencies. Minnesota Public Radio's Tim Pugmire reports...
