October 19, 2000 - The technology heavy NASDAQ stock index rose almost 250 points today, and the Dow ended up 168 points. The rise came one day after the Dow had BRIEFLY dropped more than 400 points. Such high volatility in financial markets both RESULTS from and is FEEDING concern that the nation's economy may finally be slowing down. Minnesota companies have traditionally fared relatively well in times of recession, as the state's diversified economy blunts at least some of the impact. Sung Won Sohn is executive vice president and cheif economist of Wells Fargo banks. He says the fact that the state doesn't have many dot-com companies is a blessing in the current market:

October 23, 2000 - The Minnesota Vikings came from behind once again yesterday to defeat the Buffalo Bills 31-27 at the Metrodome. Randy Moss made an amazing catch at the back of the end zone to give the Vikings the lead with less than four minutes to go in the fourth quarter. Kicker Gary Anderson added a field goal which gave him more points than any player in NFL history. The Vikings are now seven and oh and are the only undefeated team in the National Football League. October 24, 2000 - Governor Jesse Ventura has completed the first official day of his 6-day trade mission to Mexico. Ventura met outgoing Mexican President Ernesto Zedillo at the Mexican Presidential Palace and Later gave a speech to the American Chamber of Commerce in Mexico City. He and many Minnesota company representatives who've joined him on the trip finished off the evening at a reception at the residence of the ambassador to the United States. Minnesota Public Radio's Andrew Haeg is travelling with Ventura, and has this report.
