The two-time Pulitzer Prize winner talked about his long career in American letters in January at an event sponsored by the New York Times. The event was part of the New York Times' "TimesTalks" series.
November 16, 2007 - A new report finds that 80 thousand Minnesota families are expected to fall behind in their mortgage payments this year. A quarter of those families could lose their homes altogether. Governor Pawlenty wants to reduce the rate of foreclosures by dedicating money to double the number of foreclosure counselors in Minnesota. But even that won't solve the problem. November 19, 2007 - Morning Edition’s Cathy Wurzer interviews nature photographer Craig Blacklock about his art and devotion to the pristine landscapes of Lake Superior. Blacklock is using his book "Minnesota's North Shore" to educate Minnesotans about development around Lake Superior. Blacklock says those landscapes could easily be ruined by irresponsible land development. The photographer says he's devoted to the area because the raw nature of the big lake captures his imagination.
November 21, 2007 - "Prince of Tides" author Pat Conroy says "Patricia Hampl writes the best memoirs of any writer in the English language." She has written five of them, most recently "The Florist's Daughter," which she adapted into a performance and reading recently at the Fitzgerald Theater. Minnesota memoirist Patricia Hampl has won numerous honors including a Guggenheim fellowship and a MacArthur Fellowship. Hampl is also a regents professor of English at the University of Minnesota.
November 22, 2007 - La Velle Neal comments on announcement that the Minnesota Twins have lost star outfielder Torii Hunter, who signed a $90 million 5-year contract. Hunter had spent 11 seasons as a Twin, winning seven Golden Gloves for his play in center field.
November 23, 2007 - Governor Tim Pawlenty is expecting bad news when a new revenue forecast is released next week. Pawlenty says the likelyhood of reduced tax collections will mean state government will have to further hold the line on spending.

Pawlenty says at a time of slowing economic activity it would be make no sense to call lawmakers into a special session to spend more money.
