December 22, 2004 - Governor Pawlenty today (WED) proposed a ten-year, seven-billion dollar transportation package. He says it will accelerate dozens of road and transit projects across the state. The plan wouldn't begin until 2007, and relies heavily on borrowed money. DFL leaders called it a credit card financing scheme. Minnesota Public Radio's Laura McCallum reports...
December 23, 2004 - MPR’s Jim Bickal reports that Joe Mauer faces a much greater risk of developing arthritis at some point in his career after a left knee injury in the second game of his rookie season last year. The Minnesota Twins catcher is back home in St. Paul for the holidays after spending several months in Florida for rehabilitation.
December 23, 2004 - Earlier in the program we talked with a Metropolitan Airports Commission spokesperson about the Christmas travel weekend. We'll end the program tonight with a holiday travel story of a different sort. Earlier this month, Minnesota Public Radio's Dan Olson and Tom Keith teamed up for a dramatic reading of the classic christmas story "The Polar Express". Tom Keith provided sound effects and Dan Olson read the book in front of a live audience at the Fitzgerald Theater.
December 25, 2004 - The Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra is offering hundreds of student violin players a chance to rehearse with classical superstar Midori. The symphony received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to organize a ‘giant youth orchestra’ event in May 2004. Orchestra Director Andrew Berryhill discusses how his group wants to encourage youth orchestras…and not just because they can produce adult players someday.
December 27, 2004 - Mainstreet Radio’s Tom Robertson reports on how Anderson Fabrics in Blackduck, Minnesota is looking for immigrants to solve a labor shortage problem. After a failed attempt with Hmong employees due to a culture clash, company hopes to find a solution in the Twin Cities Latino community. Nearly 40 Latino workers moved from the Twin Cities to Blackduck in the fall of 2004. Blackduck school and community leaders are now bracing for what's expected to be a wave of Latino families.

December 31, 2004 - Governor Tim Pawlenty is looking to protect the supply of cheap Canadian prescription drugs. He's has written to Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin urging him to continue allowing re-importation of prescription drugs. Recent news reports suggest that Martin's health cabinet wants to block the current system. But Canadian pharmacies and others who support reimportation say they'll pursue other measures to keep the business going. Minnesota Public Radio's Tom Scheck reports...

January 5, 2005 - All Things Considered’s Tom Crann interviews one of Minnesota's most celebrated composers, Dominick Argento. In a new memoir, Argento says he has as little insight as anyone into what happens when he sits down to compose. So instead, he offers a series of reflections on his lifetime of work, the individual pieces, and teaching and learning in Minnesota. Those memories include his first impression of the state, when he was called to teach at the University of Minnesota on the first weekend of the school year in 1958.
