September 6, 2001 - PERRY At 11:00 o'clock this morning, Midday will air last night's debate with the four leading candidates for mayor of Minneapolis. But the voters who go to the polls for the September 11th primary will see many other names on the ballot. Here on Morning Edition, we've been giving you a chance to hear from many of those candidates. This morning, we'll hear from Steve Houdek (HOE-dack), who lives in the Nokomis neighborhood. He's a social worker for disabled adults. Houdek (HOE-dack) told Minnesota Public Radio's Julie Siple that he likes the Neighborhood Revitalization Program, or N-R-P. Funding for it was reduced by the state legislature, just as it completes it's first 10-year phase. Houdek (HOE-dack) says, as mayor, he would make N-R-P his top priority.
September 7, 2001 - Cathy Wurzer visits St. Andrew's Lutheran Church in Mahtomedi, which is installing a 1927 Casavant pipe organ, one of the largest of its kind in the upper Midwest. The instrument was restored by Schantz Organ Company in Ohio. It has more than 7,000 original and restored pipes, the smallest the size of a pencil...the largest 32-feet high weighing over 1,000 pounds.
September 10, 2001 - Norm Coleman is not seeking a third term as mayor of Saint Paul, but his imprint is visible on this year's race, nonetheless. September 12, 2001 - MPR’s Art Hughes reports on Minneapolis mayoral primary results. Political newcomer and internet consultant R.T. Rybak will face two-term incumbent Sharon Sayles Belton in the Minneapolis mayoral election in November. Rybak was the top vote-getter in a race that included two other viable challengers to Sayles Belton.
September 12, 2001 - D-F-Lers Jay Benanav and Randy Kelly have emerged from the Saint Paul mayoral field to face one another on the November ballot. September 19, 2001 - MPR's William Wilcoxen reports on Minnesotans returning to the national pastime, after taking a week off from baseball to mourn the lives lost on September 11th, 2001. The Twins turned in a sparkling performance in front of a small crowd at the Metrodome. Several fans and players said it felt good to get back into the swing of life's routine.

September 21, 2001 - In 1991, Democratic Senator Paul Wellstone spoke out against the U-S involvement in the Gulf War. This time he supports President Bush's war against terrorism, but says we have to proceed very carefully.
