November 9, 2000 - The unsettled Presidential race is commanding the most media attention, but who controls Congress also merits watching. Republicans retained control of the US Senate in Tuesday's elections, but their 8-seat majority has almost disappeared. In fact, the Senate could be split 50-50 for the first time in over a century. That will happen if democrat Maria Cantwell wins in Washington, where the race is still too close to call. The spilt would also occur if Al Gore loses the presidency, sending his running mate Joseph Lieberman back to the Senate. November 10, 2000 - Former Democratic Governor Wendell Anderson (1971-1976) (and U.S. Senator from 1977-1978) and former Republican Governor Al Quie (1979-1983) (also in Congress from 1958-1978). The discussion will focus on when a candidate should step down.
November 14, 2000 - MPR’s Maris Helms reports that more than 300 government officials and business leaders were in St. Cloud to give Governor Jesse Ventura feedback on budget proposals he will take before the legislature in January. One of the top issues was funding K-12 education.
November 16, 2000 - MPR’s Laura McCallum reports on Governor Ventura's job with the XFL, a professional American football minor league, beginning in February 2001. XFL founder says Ventura was chosen because he is honest and opinionated. Legislators are not thrilled with the situation and are making their displeasure known.
November 17, 2000 - On his weekly radio show today, Governor Ventura defended his new job as a color commentator for the X-F-L football league. Ventura will work ten Saturday night games for the XFL's first season starting in February.
November 28, 2000 - MPR’s Cathy Wurzer interviews Amy Klobuchar, Hennepin County Attorney, whose office is hosting a training conference for police patrol officers from around Hennepin County on training how to handle domestic violence calls. Officers often find it difficult to handle such calls because the family members involved often have conflicting views over what happened, and whether someone should be arrested.
November 28, 2000 - Saint Paul mayor Norm Coleman's weekend announcement that he will not seek re-election raised expectations that he'll run for governor. But Coleman's decision also changes the landscape of Saint Paul city politics. Yesterday (Mon), former city council member Bobbi Megard entered a mayor's race that is certain to become more crowded by next fall. Minnesota Public Radio's William Wilcoxen reports...
November 29, 2000 - Former Vice President Walter Mondale addressed a symposium on US-Japan relations. The event at Macalester College was one of a series of Mondale Lectures on Public Service, a look back at the former Vice President's 50-year career.
November 30, 2000 - Independence party member James Gibson says he's considering a run for governor in 2002, even if the race would pit him against his party's most popular politician, Governor Jesse Ventura. Gibson, a software developer who failed in his bid for the U.S. Senate this year, says running against Ventura in the party primary would allow for a vigorous campaign including debates and other events to bring voters to the party. Minnesota Public Radio's Amy Radil reports.
