Weekend Edition (Regional Edition) is an MPR News segment series that runs as a companion to broadcasts of NPR’s Weekend Edition. As a regional version, the series highlights local news, commentary, profiles, and reports.

March 13, 1993 - Mainstreet Radio’s Catherine Winter reports on the difficulty to prosecute child abuse on Red Lake and other Indian reservations. On most reservations, state criminal laws don’t apply. The federal government is responsible for prosecuting serious cries under federal law. While child sex abuse is prohibited under federal law, child physical abuse is not.

April 17, 1993 - Actor Gregory Alan Williams reflects on his experiences in the middle of the 1992 South Los Angeles riots. Williams has written A Gathering of Heroes: A Personal Memoir of the Los Angeles Riots, a book about that period of unrest.
April 24, 1993 - MPR’s Mark Zdechlik reports on concerns over the catching and eating of contaminated fish in Minnesota waters. Many in the Southeast Asian communities continue a tradition of fishing for food, but are unaware of the dangers of contamination in the waters of Minnesota lakes and rivers.
