September 3, 1996 - The Minnesota Supreme Court heard arguments today over the fate of convicted sex offender Dennis Linehan. Linehan is challenging his indefinite commitment to a state hospital under Minnesota's Sexually Dangerous Persons law.
September 3, 1996 - Nearly 80 billion pounds of plastic are produced each year in the United States, more than triple the amount produced 20 years ago. To counter the concerns of environmentalists, the plastic industry has mounted an agressive campaign to promote plastic recycling. Technically, all types of plastic are recyclable, but the concept of plastic recycling is often quite different from the reality.
September 3, 1996 - Today was the first day of the 1996-97 school year. It also marked the first day of high school for the "Class of 2000." In four years today's 14 and 15 year old ninth graders will graduate at the beginning of the 21st century. Minnesota Public Radio's Mark Zdechlik spent the day at a new school to to find out what the school of the future looks like AND what kind of education the class of 2000 will end up getting.
