January 13, 1986 - MPR’s George Boosey reports on Potter v. LaSalle Court Sports & Health Club case being heard at the Minnesota Supreme Court. The case stems from a complaint by gay man that health club discriminated against him due to his sexuality. Report includes clips of arguments presented by attorneys.

January 18, 1986 - Minnesotan politicians LeClair Lambert and Don Fraser reflect on being present in D.C. during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom on August 28, 1963. The day included the famous Martin Luther King Jr. speech “I Have a Dream.”
January 18, 1986 - MPR’s Mark Heistad interviews Charles Johnson, a professor at Macalester University, about Hmong folktales. Johnson is the author of collected Hmong traditional folk stories translated in English for ESL studies.
January 20, 1986 - MPR Journal’s Gary Eichten gets multiple reports on the status of Hormel strike situation in Austin. Striking meatpackers have amassed at gates of Hormel plant in order to disrupt. The company and city have requested the National Guard.
January 20, 1986 - Mike Mulcahy talks about Perpich's decision. Paul Tschida, Public Safety Commissioner, talks about incidents and mounting tension, with some shots fired and several assaults. He says the Guard will not be armed and will not be guarding the Hormel plant.
January 20, 1986 - Local authorities in Austin have requested the governor to call out National Guard. Perpich says he will honor the request. The Guard will assist but not take over. Paul Tschida, Public Safety Commissioner, comments.

January 23, 1986 - MPR Journal’s Gary Eichten interviews Paul Karas, an airline industry analyst, about Northwest Airlines acquiring Republic Airways. The deal would make Northwest the third largest airline.
January 23, 1986 - Hormel officials and striking workers will meet with factfinder. Mulcahy debrief with Doug ..... A bit more quiet than yesterday. Guard is still guarding the north gate where workers will be crossing picket line. Last night at union meeting members asked to be nonviolent, stay in cars and not congregate behind police lines. Perpich reputation among union, union may sue. Factfinder to look at mediator's final proposal.
