MPR Journal was a daily half-hour regional news program, hosted by Gary Eichten, airing from 1984 until 1991. The program was initially titled Minnesota Journal, but in early 1985 changed to MPR Journal.
July 2, 1990 - Mainstreet Radio’s John Biewen reports on the shortage of rural foster homes and a community alternative in Worthington…the creation of the Bridgeway Center, a group home for emergency foster kids.
July 30, 1990 - MPR’s Dan Olson reports on the gathering of over 5,000 Hmong mourners from around the country to honor Major Vang after his death. Olson details the ceremony and the continuing struggle for some Hmong military veterans in adapting to new home in United States.

August 2, 1990 - MPR Journal’s Gary Eichten interviews Minnesota Supreme Court Justice Peter Popovich about studies on racial bias and discrimination in the court system.
August 24, 1990 - MPR Journal’s Gary Eichten interviews Lucia Wilkes, co-director of Women Against Military Madness, about group’s Persian Gulf position and concerns over a pending war.
August 28, 1990 - MPR’s Stephen Smith profiles Kevin Locke, a Hunkpapa Sioux who is trying to preserve the language and art of Lakota music. Locke is one of few Native American musicians to make a profession of performing traditional flute music. The Lakota did not use written words, so their songs were recorded only in memory. The composition of these songs was within the domain of a relatively small group of people, known as the Elk Dreamers.
