September 5, 2008 - MPR’s Sea Staura recounts scenes of protest that started on the Minneosta State Capitol lawn and ended with the biggest number of arrests of any day during the Republican National Convention, being hosted at the Xcel Center in St. Paul.
September 26, 2008 - The Minnesota Twins took over first place in the American League Central in dramatic fashion, beating the Chicago White Sox 7-6 in extra innings. The win gave the Twins a sweep over Chicago and a half game lead in the division….but, there are still three games left in the 2008 regular season.
September 29, 2008 - The Minnesota Twins won their regular season finale by shutting out the Kansas City Royals 6-0 at the Metrodome. The victory allowed the Twins to finish the season in first place in the American League's Central Division…but they're still not sure if they're division champions. The Twins will learn more about their future after their rivals, the Chicago White Sox, make up a game that was rained out earlier this month but is now critical to the division standings.
October 1, 2008 - Morning Edition’s Cathy Wurzer talks with sports commentator Steve Rudolph about the end of Minnesota Twins season, after the team lost to the Chicago White Sox 1-0 in a one-game playoff for the American League Central pennant and postseason play.
October 2, 2008 - Morning Edition’s Cathy Wurzer interviews DFL 1st District Congressman Tim Walz about bailout bill making its way through Congress. He says the bill passed by the U.S. Senate is better than the one the House rejected earlier this week, but he's still planning to vote against it.
October 13, 2008 - Morning Edition’s Cathy Wurzer talks with Roger Moe, former DFL Majority Leader, about Allan Spear, former President of the Minnesota Senate, who died at the age of 71.
November 27, 2008 - Curt Brown discusses his book “So Terrible a Storm: A Tale of Fury on Lake Superior,” which chronicles The Great Storm of 1905, also known as Mataafa Storm of 1905. The cyclone storm brought death and destruction for those on Lake Superior during the intense weather event.
November 27, 2008 - MPR’s Tim Post talks to four students at the College of St. Katherine in St. Paul to hear about their experiences with the Thanksgiving holiday, and what Americans might learn from their thoughts on giving thanks.
January 6, 2009 - MPR’s William Wilcoxen presents a profile of Carl Pohlad, local businessman and owner of the Minnesota Twins, who passed away on January 5th, 2009. Minnesotans in business, sports, and philanthropic circles are looking back on the life of Pohlad.
January 15, 2009 - MPR’s Bob Kelleher reports that efforts to help Lake Superior sturgeon become self-sustaining is entering a critical phase. Lake Superior sturgeon were nearly wiped out in the big lake about a century ago. In the 1980's, wildlife officials began restocking sturgeon. Those fish are just now reaching the age to reproduce - but they don't have a good place to do that. Crews have been busy this winter, trying to build the perfect sturgeon love nest.
