October 21, 2009 - MPR’s Mark Steil visits potter Pete Landherr as he oversees his kiln firing near Walnut Grove.
November 24, 2009 - Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer has been named the 2009 American League's Most Valuable Player, by a near unanimous vote. The award caps a season for Mauer in which he led the league in most major hitting categories, and posted career-high totals for home runs and runs batted in. However, Mauer's long-list of achievements has sparked more talk about his future with the team.
December 2, 2009 - Morning Edition gets a Democratic perspective on President Obama's new Afghanistan strategy from DFL Congressman Tim Walz. Walz went to Afghanistan on a fact finding mission in September. Walz is also a military veteran, serving 24 years in the Army National Guard and retiring with the rank of command sergeant major.
December 24, 2009 - MPR’s Annie Baxter profiles the Peterson family as they prepare for a holiday season after a job loss.
December 29, 2009 - MPR’s Dan Gunderson reports on how a Minnesota high school coach is challenging gender stereotypes. Women lead only two percent of Minnesota boys’ teams, so heads are turning when the Ulen Hitterdal Spartan boys’ basketball team takes to the court this year.
January 28, 2010 - MPR’s Bob Kelleher reports that a deadly fish disease has been confirmed in Lake Superior. Researchers have identified the disease known as VHS in fish taken from four places in the lake, including the Duluth-Superior Harbor. It is not known yet if that means fish populations are at risk in the big lake.
February 4, 2010 - In 2010, twenty athletes from Minnesota participated in the Winter Olympic games in Vancouver, 7 of which were curlers. Two of them, Allison Pottinger and John Benton, talked with MPR’s Cathy Wurzer about the upcoming Olympics and how they felt about representing their state.
March 22, 2010 - Morning Edition’s Cathy Wurzer talks with U.S. Representative Tim Walz about his ‘yes’ vote on healthcare reform bill, known as the Affordable Care Act. Walz had been targeted by Republicans hoping he would change his mind.
March 23, 2010 - Twins catcher Joe Mauer officially signs a new $184 million contract with the Minnesota Twins, keeping him in a Twins uniform for another eight years The team and Mauer announced they had agreed to terms that will make the All-Star catcher one of the highest paid players in the game.
March 30, 2010 - MPR’s Chris Roberts talks with members of Jelloslave, a Minneapolis band that takes the cello where quartets and concertos don't usually go. Their CD "Purple Orange" is highlighted.
