January 23, 1986 - Confirmation from Mower Co. Sheriff Wayne Goodnature that six arrests were made this morning at Hormel plant. 25 cars were stopped and locked and not running on east and west exit ramps. Mulcahey phoner.
January 24, 1986 - Reps. from Hormel and Local P9 meeting in in state mediator?s office near capitol in St. Paul. Paula Shroeder reports: Relationship between factfinder Arnold Zack and Allen Zack, spokesman for international union uncovered by Austin Herald newspaper; article says the two are related. Union upset, claims conspiracy against the union because of Arnold Zack's influence over the talks. Arnold says he doesn?t know Allen. Talks continue. Arnold Zack: he?s not here as a mediator, it?s up to the parties involved, too broad to bridge, I hope not. Union leaders have postponted tonight?s rank and file meeting until tomorrow night.
April 17, 1986 - Reporter Bruce MacDonald debrief about Honeywell protest, protestors, arrests. The usual annual demonstration, no surprises. MTC buses to take away those arrested. April 17, 1986 - No recording equipment allowed in meeting. Marv Davidov and other members of Honeywell Project urge Honeywell to stop making nuclear weapons and any arms systems used by Contra rebels in Nicaragua, wants Honeywell to move all operations and investments out of South Africa, and convert weapons factories to endeavors promoting peace and employment. Honeywell spokesman Edmund Spencer at subsequent news conference says 18 years of protest had have no effects on Honeywell business decisions. Honeywell thinks protestors are wrong, the way to bring peace into the world is for US to maintain a very strong defense position. Aerospace and defense division accounts for 27 percent of Honeyell earnings, in 1st quarter showed improvement while overall earnings down 43 percent. Spencer says Honeywell does mfr some systems used in bombing raid on Libya, but ll doesn?t know if Honeywell parts were used in that specific action.
June 2, 1986 - Fed district court Judge Edward Devitt orders local P-9 union members to turn over assets and co-operate with International union trustee Joe Hanson. International union makes settlement offer to Hormel to try to save as many worker jobs as possible. Hormel VP Chuck Nyberg says talks will be arranged with Hanson, bite "strike is offically over". Mike Mulcahy reports.

November 7, 1986 - A group calling itself Community United Against Violence said one purpose of its announcement is to draw attention to the recent death of Robert Churchill. Churchill is the latest victim in a string of eleven gay murders in the Twin Cities. During November the group will be organizing activity to heighten awareness of violence, especially violence against homosexuals. Yesterday’s announcement comes at a time of heightened tension between some leaders of the gay community and police. There have been complaints that the police aren’t doing enough to solve unsolved gay murder cases.
April 6, 1987 - Under current law in Minnesota, sodomy, adultery and sex out of wedlock are illegal. A bill by Senator Donna Peterson, a Minneapolis democrat, would erase those laws, but would also make it illegal to engage in sex in public. Peterson told a Senate judiciary committee that her measure would create a law that’s needed and do away with laws that are both unfair and unenforced.
August 17, 1987 - Northwest Airlines flight 255 crashes in Detroit. Includes this audio cut of woman describing what happened... INCUE: It was airborne, but it was having troubles, and we looked and it was on fire. I seen flames coming out of it, shooting out. And they were small flames at first, and within seconds the flames got bigger, and the plane was on fire, and seconds after that it exploded. Great big explosion.
