May 16, 1978 - MPR’s Nancy Fushan reports on the resignation of Stephen Sell, general manager of The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. Sell has decided to become the Executive Vice President of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.

This includes James Halland's contract to be general manager not being renewed and Dennis Russell Davies leaving after the 1979-1980 season to conduct in Europe. May 17, 1978 - MPR’s Nancy Fushan reports on a shake-up in The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra's leadership. James Halland's contract to be general manager is not renewed and Principal Conductor Dennis Russell Davies is leaving after the 1979-1980 season to conduct in Europe. Edward Taylor, the president of the Orchestra Association's Executive Board, blames the shake up on the lack of financial stability in the future. There is also a proposal to alter the management structure.
May 26, 1978 - MPR’s Pat Kessler reports that 30 days after St. Paul gay rights ordinance repeal, there is a general attitude that the repeal has had no real effect on the lifestyles of homosexuals. Kessler talks with two individuals who fought on opposing sides of the rights issue.
July 17, 1978 - American Indians and their supporters have ended a 3,000 mile walk to Washington, DC. Today they begin lobbying activities in Congress in protest to 11 bills before Congress that some American Indians say would take away Indian land, water, minerals and sovereignty.
January 4, 1979 - State of the State Address. Governor Al Quie delivers his State of the State address live to the Minnesota Legislature. Comment and reaction from legislative leaders follows.
February 16, 1979 - MPR reporter Dan Olson speaks with with Gregory Reed of the Afro-American Cultural Arts Center in Minneapolis about the history of Black people in Minnesota.

April 3, 1979 - Almost a year has passed since one of the most divisive election campaigns in St. Paul’s history. The attempt to repeal gay rights in St. Paul at first became a part of, and then completely overshadowed, the city’s mayoral and city council elections. The repeal effort brought theologians, civil rights experts, lawyers, entertainment personalities and media from all over the country. When the ballots were counted the citizens of St. Paul had voted overwhelmingly against the right to affectional or sexual preference. The question of initiative or referendum status has come before the Minnesota Supreme Court.
July 24, 1979 - In Minnesota speech, Vice President Walter F. Mondale expresses his strong support of the controversial SALT II treaty.
