February 26, 2001 - All Things Considered’s Lorna Benson talks with Bruce Coppock, managing director of the SPCO, about conductor Bobby McFerrin leaving The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra. McFerrin took the SPCO job in 1994, signing on for a two year contract after visiting the orchestra to conduct. Those two years turned into seven, and now McFerrin's ready to pursue other projects.

February 26, 2001 - Minnesota is increasingly relying on neighboring states to handle a growing amount of its garbage. About 1/3 of Minnesota's landfill waste ends up in out of state facilities- with the majority going to Iowa and Wisconsin. Sherry Enzler is Director of the Minnesota Office of Environmental Assistance. She says it is the trash hauling companines - NOT the state of Minnesota- that decide where to send garbage. And right now, landfills in neighboring states charge less:

February 26, 2001 - The Capitol swings into another week of work with the anticipation of a new budget forecast. The amount of money projected to come into the state's budget is expected to be down from the last forecast, which put this year's surplus at over 900 million dollars. But how how much money will be available for tax cuts, rebates and spending increases is a topic of speculation at the Capitol. Joining us on the line is Laura McCallum, M-P-R's capitol bureau chief.
February 26, 2001 - Foreign Skiers dominated Saturday's Birkebeiner Cross-Country ski race in Hayward Wisconsin. Italian Gianantonio Zanetel won the men's 52 kilometer- or 34 mile- race. And Russian Nadezhada Slessareva was the women's champion at the same distance. More than three inches of fresh snow slowed the athletes down considerably... the leaders were almost 30 minutes off their normal pace. But the tough conditions were not enough to keep more than 7,000 skiiers from showing up to race.
February 26, 2001 - The weekend's big winter storm prompted new snow emergency declarations in the Twin Cities. In Minneapolis the snow emergency comes on top of additional winter restrictions recently enacted because of the heavy snow accumulations. As Minnesota Public Radio's Art Hughes reports, the regulations have many residents wondering if there's anyplace left to park in Minneapolis.
