December 22, 2000 - For the second time in two years a new Bishop has been appointed to the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis. Reverend Monsignor Richard Pates joins Bishop Frederick Campbell as an auxiliary bishop for one of the fastest growing dioceses in the nation. Minnesota Public Radio's Jae Bryson reports.

December 22, 2000 - Weather permitting, Minnesotans will see partial solar eclipse on Christmas day. A solar eclipse occurs when the sun, moon and earth are positioned nearly in a straight line. The moon comes directly between the sun and the earth, casting a shadow on the earth's surface. People in the Twin Cities will see about half (55-percent) of the sun disappear. Places farther north will see more solar coverage. University of Minnesota astronomy professor John Dickey says if you didn't know the eclipse was coming--you might not even notice it.

December 22, 2000 - Recently livestock producers have faced wildly fluctuating prices and growing corporate competition. The combination has pushed about a third of the nation's hog farmers out of business. Now, control over the country's second largest pork processor has ignited a battle between two agricultural giants. Whoever wins the right to merge with IBP will increase their grip on the pork industry, extending more control over farmers and their livelihood. Minnesota Public Radio's Erin Galbally reports.
