November 8, 2000 - Minnesota will remain a tripartisan government in the next legislative session following Tuesdays balloting. Republicans picked up one seat in the Minnesota Senate, but DFLers maintain a majority of twelve votes there. Meanwhile, Republicans in the House retained their majority but by the slimmest of margins Tuesday, with their lead over House D-F-Lers shrinking from seven to four. House D-F-Lers defended all of their open seats in addition to picking up two Republican districts. Minnesota Public Radio's Amy Radil reports.
November 8, 2000 - St. Paul public schools will gain an additional 105-million dollars over the next five years. Voters in the state's second largest school district approved their first ever excess tax levy referendum on Tuesday by a margin of 57-percent to 43-percent. In Minneapolis voters overwhelmingly renewed a school district levy for another ten years. Minnesota Public Radio's Tim Pugmire reports.
November 8, 2000 - D-F-L Senate-elect Mark Dayton says he's thrilled to have won the seat he first sought 18 years ago. Dayton defeated Republican incumbent Rod Grams 49-to-43-percent in yesterday's election. The former state Auditor and department store heir spent more than 11-million dollars of his own money in a bitterly-contested race that Grams didn't officially concede until late this afternoon. November 8, 2000 - St Cloud Voters approved a half cent sales tax for the city in Tuesday's election. The tax, if approved by the Minnesota legislature, would collect 40 million dollars for the city's library, parks and transportation needs. Minnesota Public Radio's Tim Post reports.

November 8, 2000 - Minnesota's fourth Congressional district is staying in Democratic hands with Betty McCollum's victory over Republican Linda Runbeck and the Independence Party's Tom Foley. McCollum is only the second woman in state history to be elected to Congress and the first in more than forty years. Minnesota Public Radio's William Wilcoxen reports...
November 8, 2000 - Some Star-tribune readers woke up to the headline "Bush Wins Cliffhanger." The paper was not alone in calling the race prematurely... newspapers from the New York Post to the Charleston Gazette declared a Bush triumph in their first editions, only to find out later that the race was and IS STILL too close to call.
