June 10, 1997 - The 25th Anniversary of one of the most deadly flash floods in U-S history is being remembered today as a successful recovery effort - NOT for the devastation. In Rapid City South Dakota 238 people died in June of 1972 in a matter of hours as water rose to as high as 10 feet in places. Minnesota Public Radio has more on the recovery efforts: In the wee hours of the morning of June 10th 25 years ago people were starting to realize the devastation of the flash flood from the night before. Houses that once rounded out a neighborhood were blocking major roads - cars were stacked like dominoes and dead bodies were scattered in the debris. June 11, 1997 - It's become a matter of conventional wisdom that a high school diploma won't cut it anymore -- especially in the high-tech job market of the 21st century. But college isn't cheap: The cost of attending a public institution has doubled in the last fifteen years, and tuitions at PRIVATE colleges have tripled. As Minnesota Public Radio's Martin Kaste reports, there may be an alternative on the way for undergrads who don't have the money -- or the time -- for life on campus.

They were leaders in the strikes and radical political movements of their time. A new Minnesota Public Radio documentary produced by Mary Losure and Dan Olson tells their story. June 11, 1997 - Minnesota State Patrol Trooper Timothy Bowe was laid to rest today, four days after he was shot to death while on duty in Chisago County. Thousands of law enforcement officials gathered along with state officials, including the governor, to mourn Bowe's death alongside his family. Minnesota Public Radio's Mark Zdechlik has a report.

June 11, 1997 - A new Minnesota Public Radio, Pioneer Press and KARE-11 poll shows more Minnesotans favor Governor Carlson's proposal for education tax credits and deductions that parents could use for private school education, than oppose it. MPR's Karen-Louise Boothe reports.
